The Family Literacy Program at Oak View Library, part of the Huntington Beach Library Adult Literacy Program, provides educational services for the predominately Hispanic Oak View community in Huntington Beach. The services offered include:
- Tutoring for parents.
- Parent - child story times with storytelling, songs & crafts.
- Library branch with teaching materials, computer lab and tutoring space
The Students
The students are limited English speaking parents of young children. They come to the program to learn:
- to speak, read and write English
- to read aloud to their children.
The Tutors
Volunteer tutors work with parents one-on-one or in small groups. Tutors must be competent readers and writers of English. Tutors meet with their students 2 hours per week at Oak View Branch Library.
