Borrowing Limits
  • New cards may check out only 2 items on the first day.
  • Residents of Huntington Beach (including business and property owners): A maximum of 50 books checked out on a single card at any time.
  • Nonresidents of Huntington Beach: A maximum of 25 books checked out on a single card at any time.
  • There is a borrowing limit of 2 items per academic subject (i.e. call number) on a card at any time.
  • There is a borrowing limit of 5 magazines on a card at any time. Current issues of magazines may not be checked out.
  • Borrowing Privileges are non-transferable. The cardholder is responsible for all transactions on his or her card.

Renewals
 
Books (including encyclopedias and magazines)
  • May be renewed only one time before the due date. Overdue items cannot be renewed.
  • Renewing a book gives an additional, appropriate loan period starting from the date the item is renewed.
  • Cannot be renewed if another patron has placed a reserve on that title.
  • Media items (see below) cannot be renewed.
Media Materials (Videos, DVDs, Compact Discs, Audio and Books on Cassette)
  • Must be brought to the library Media Center to be renewed.
  • Any circulation fees must be paid again for a second loan period.

Renewing Materials
 
Books May be Renewed Three Ways
  1. In person with the books present at any library branch.
  2. By telephone, 24 hours a day through the automated number: (714) 374-1680
  3. Through the online catalog. You must have chosen a Personal Identification Numer (PIN) for your library card to access the renewal system online. If you need a PIN, please come to the Reception Desk at the Central Library or to any of the Branches to create one. You will need your card and a photo ID, or your library photo ID card.

Media Materials may only be renewed in person at the Media Center.

Rules of Conduct

The rules of conduct are established to ensure that all patrons will be able to use the resources of the library in a quiet atmosphere.  All patrons must be respectful of each other.

¨ In order to protect both the library collections and furnishings, no food or beverage is permitted in the library except in the vending machine area or adjacent pool area  on the lower level of the Central Library.

¨ Library users are asked to keep conversation to a minimum in consideration of others.

The following activities must be avoided:

· Loud talking

· Cell phone use ( Please go outside building to use cell phones - violators subject to $100 fine )

· Disruptive behavior

· Leaving young children unattended

· Roller-skating or skateboarding on library grounds

· Drunk or disorderly conduct

· Soliciting

· Abuse, misuse, theft, vandalism, or mutilation of library property

· Running or playing

· Loitering

· Group studying except in study rooms

· Card and game playing

· Food and drink outside the snack area

· Shoes and shirts required

· No pets allowed

 Violators will be asked to leave the library.
